Dawned On Me

So excited waking up today to low humidity and a temperature of 72 degrees!  I LOVE fall and you could almost feel it in the air!

Fall is such a splendid time of year for so many reasons!  I love the changing leaves and the spectacular color of the outdoors.  The temperatures are comfortable and perfect for so many activities.  And if you are a sports fan – Football season is arriving!

I’m aging myself, but I adoringly remember the Benetton rugby shirts back in college!  Do you remember them?  I had a friend who had them in every color!  I just loved them.  So, last month when Nordstrom held its annual anniversary sale and this popped up, I had to order it!  The color combo packs a punch but it’s the bell sleeves that have given this top a fun update!  It would make a great top for game day or any day for that matter!  And also, it comes in plus sizes!

And speaking of retro style…when we shot this look I was happy to see that my mood ring turned a bold blue and matched my top!  LOL!  It’s the coolest ring!  Often times it turns a pretty turquoise but my mood was definitely matching my style that day!

As the week winds down, looking forward to the weekend!  Boys have been doing well easing into online school!  Around here, most schools are back in session and parents are back in the routine!  If that includes you, hope that things are going smoothly this week.  Routines are good but it’s hard to bid farewell to summertime isn’t it? Went soo fast!

If you’re looking for the perfect top to take you into fall this one makes my list!  I am a huge fan of these billowy tops with big angel sleeves.  You can check all the boxes with this Free People top.  It’s comfy,  comes in a bunch of different color combinations and can be dressed up or down.  I had a hard time choosing the color combo but am super happy with this coral/light blue one!  I think it’s perfect as we wrap up summer and head into autumn.

I love to style these tops with distressed denim but it would look so cute with a denim cutoff skirt or even white pants.

So, as many of you know, I am a huge fan of accessories.  I saw these gold bangles a few weeks ago and the description had me intrigued.  They come in a set of nine.  The story is that as you put each one on, you set your daily intentions, then you remove one at a time at night feeling grateful for the blessings of the day.  From a distance or in my photos they look like a hard metal bracelet but they’re more like a rubbery material that is very flexible.  What’s so great about it is that while they look like they have some weight, they are actually light as a feather and can get wet, they are TSA approved and don’t tarnish. I find they are so comfortable and you can even easily wear them at the office while typing away on a keyboard at your desk.

Off topic for a second:  This is our last weekend before the kiddos go back to school.  Our boys are starting online school on Monday.  They are doing this program here.  The boys play tennis and a few of the other kids from tennis have been doing this same online school and really like it.  There are so many reasons why we’ve made this decision.  A couple of the big ones include us pinpointing what we saw as a goodly amount of wasted time during the school day, a lot of time sitting in car lines and a LOT of homework after school.  It just seemed to us that there has to be a more efficient way to learn.  I’m in no way a “home school mom.”  Hats off to them.  I would never have the patience for that.  The plan, if it works out, is for the boys to do their online work at their tennis academy which will also enable them to practice their sport a bit more too.  My goal is to be able to have dinner as a family and allow them some well deserved down time in the evening.  Starting homework at 8pm is pure insanity to me.  If you can’t teach it in 8 hours at school, something’s wrong in our opinion. Jury’s out if it will work but they can always return to traditional school if they want.  You don’t know until you try it, right?

Well we are only one week away until the boys start school so that means summer is coming to an unofficial close soon!  This time of year can either bring a ton of heat or a cool down or even both!  I’m turning my focus to fall fashion as it starts making its debut on the racks!  Finding good in-between stuff can sometimes be challenging and wearing the same old T-shirts can get really boring.  I’m always on the search for fun and casual cotton tops that can be dressed up or down.  Finding them isn’t always easy.  So many are the same straight line, crew or v neck and that look can get old real fast.

Here’s how I go about finding T-shirts that can really crank your style up a notch:

Sleeves:  Sleeve style has been big for several years and is still going strong.  A fun sleeve can really add a unique look to a style.  I love a balloon sleeve or a big bell sleeve top.  This flutter sleeve from my post here from last year, was one of my favorites and this top in this post reminded me a lot of it!

Uneven/Asymmetrical/Peplum Hems:  I like to search for T-shirts that have a longer hem in the back like this one.  I think it quickly punches the look up to the next level.  A T-shirt that covers the bootie can also have it’s advantages if you know what I mean? 🙂

Tie, Knotted, or Ruched:  One of my favorite styles that’s not only fun but forgiving is the tie, knotted or ruched front.  If you have a little extra tummy going on or a food baby (lol) these help cover up a lot.  I own and LOVE this one here and love this tie style here.

I absolutely fell in love with this balloon sleeve in today’s post.  It really reminds me of Free People but costs a LOT less.  This top is only $29 and also comes in a blue/gold color combo. (An added bonus if you’re a Michigan Fan!)

I’m wearing a medium for reference and with all my T-shirts, I wash them in the normal cycle but ALWAYS hang dry.
